Baking Soda For Beauty

You definitely know how to use baking soda in the kitchen. But did you know baking soda can also be used for beauty as well? Baking soda can be used as an ingredient in many beauty tricks. Here are some tips for you to help you find uses of baking soda for your beauty.

Facial Wash

You can use baking soda as a facial wash. You will need to combine two teaspoons of baking soda with a teaspoon of warm water and then stir until it becomes a paste. You will splash your face with water and grab some of the paste to gently wash your face, doing circular motions. Rinse your face with warm water and then pat – not rub – your face dry.

Acne Mask

If you get acne problems, you can use baking soda as an acne mask. After you wash your face, make paste using warm water and a few drops of baking soda. Apply this all over your face and leave it on for 5-10 minutes before washing thoroughly with warm water.

Baking soda is very good as an exfoliator. It is considered to be a gentle scrub due to its grainy composition, but you can also use it as an ingredient for a DIY exfoliator. You can either add a teaspoon of baking soda to your cleanser or add a tablespoon of baking soda, two teaspoons of oat flour, and water for a deep cleaning with minimal cost.

Foot Soak

Your feet should also be a part of your beauty regimen. You should also consider the needs of your feet when using baking soda. Baking soda will help pamper and care of your feet if you follow these directions.

For every gallon of water in your basin, add ½ cup of baking soda. Soak your feet for about half an hour. This will not only clean your feet completely but also soften your feet’s roughest and toughest areas.

Detox Bath

You can use baking soda for a relaxing and detoxifying bath. A detox bath will help your body eliminate toxins so it is not only good for your beauty but also for your health. You should add 1 or 2 cups of baking soda and 2 cups of Epsom salts and then sit in the water for about half an hour.

Treat Sunburns

Baking soda can also be used to treat sunburns. Soak a clean cloth in a mixture made of water and baking soda to apply directly to the sunburned area. Another great use for baking soda is to make a lukewarm bath in which you would add ½ cup of baking soda. Soaking in this mixture will help you relieve burning, itchy and irritated skin.

Nail Care

You may be surprised that baking soda can also help with taking care of your nails. Baking soda will give your nails and cuticles a good cleaning. When you wish to clean your nails, pour baking soda on your nail brush and then scrub your nails vigorously.

Also, you can treat unsightly nail fungus using baking soda. For this, you will need to add one part water and two parts baking soda together. Stir this mixture to make a paste. Apply the paste on and around the infected nail and let sit for 10 minutes. Repeat this two times every day until the fungus is gone.

You can make your own mouthwash using baking soda. In a glass of water, mix 1 teaspoon of baking soda with 3 drops of peppermint or eucalyptus essential oil. When used like any other mouthwash, this will help you freshen your breath and neutralize bacteria.

Baking soda can be used to whiten teeth. Apply the baking soda onto your toothbrush and brush your teeth. Another option is to put toothpaste on your toothbrush and add baking soda on top of this before brushing your teeth.

It is recommended that you do not use baking soda on your teeth every day. This is better recommended for your teeth approximately 2 or 3 days per week. The remaining days, brush with your normal brand of toothpaste.

Hair Cleanser

You can add baking soda to your shampoo as this will help to thoroughly cleanse your hair. Add one tablespoon of baking soda and one tablespoon of shampoo together, then wash your hair just as you normally would. Your hair will be very clean and easy to manage.

This process is recommended once or twice a month to remove build-up of soap scum and hair products on the follicles.  Men or women with shorter hair can also use baking soda with water instead of shampoo and the result will be the same.

You can create your own deodorant using baking soda. Into a bowl, add 3 tablespoons of baking soda and 3-5 drops of your favorite essential oil. Mix this all together for a simple homemade deodorant. Apply this deodorant with a powder puff onto your underarms to neutralize any body odor.

As you can see, baking soda can be used for plenty of other purposes than in the kitchen. Your personal beauty regimen is very important, but it is not always necessary to buy expensive products. Sometimes, pantry items such as baking soda will offer a cheap and effective alternative – without all those harsh chemicals and ingredients that you cannot even pronounce. Baking soda is certainly a must have for your DIY beauty regimen.
