Beijing is one of the most famous and recognizable cities in China. A symbol of the greatness of the Imperial rule, Beijing is an absolute must see for anyone traveling in beautiful Asia. There are plenty of great things to do while you are in Beijing, so make sure to stop at these destinations during your stay.

The Forbidden City

In the middle of Beijing is The Forbidden City, a large complex of palaces that used to house emperors in times past. Now, this amazing city functions as one of the biggest museums in the world, and is a great way to learn about the Chinese culture and the history of the city. The Forbidden City is an absolute must visit location for anyone that is a history buff. Don’t forget to take a walk through the adjoining gardens and have a look at the Shichahi Lakes, a series of three lakes which make up the vast natural beauty of this Imperial capital.

Drum and Bell Tower District

The Drum and Bell Tower district is a small area which is comprised of many little shops and bazaars. This small village like area is a great stop for tourists to experience the culture and/or find the perfect souvenir. The Legation Quarter

The Great Wall

The Great Wall of China is not located in the city of Beijing, but is very close. This means it is an essential part of any trip to Beijing, as it is one of the Seven Wonders of the World. The Wall is the single biggest architectural structure ever built, and is even visible from space. It is possible to book tours of the Great Wall and learn the long history of its construction. Construction on the Wall started as early as 4000 BC. When taking a trip to Beijing, tourists simply must make sure to see the Great Wall or face regret.

Beijing Zoo

For the animal lovers, the Beijing Zoo is the largest zoo in China. This fun attraction has over 600 animals so there is something for everyone. There are entire sections dedicated to pandas, elephants, monkeys, and reptiles, among many others. The zoo also includes the Beijing Aquarium which is the biggest inland aquarium in the country. Summer Palace

The Summer Palace is a famous stretch of imperial gardens situated on the northwester portion of Beijing. It is a beautiful and scenic area, with hundreds of pagodas, pavilions, benches, and statues. It is, in all actuality, a series of gardens that emperors in the Qing Dynasty (approx 1600-1900) used as a vacation resort. Now, most of the area is open to the public as a monument and wildlife preserve, designed to show tourists and natives alike the beauty of nature in Beijing. Tourists can go on nature tours, rent boats to go on the river, or tour the palace. This is definitely a location to make some memories which will last a lifetime.
